We here at Officially Cancelled(tm) would like to welcome you to the first edition of our website. We have grand plans to make this an AI-driven source of celebrity, business, and all other noteworthy Cancellations in popular culture. For now though, you just get me, writing things the old fashion way. With a keyboard connected to computing hardware our ancestors would think is magic. TRADITION!
Our very first ARE THEY CANCELLED OR NOT hails from TikTok land. Addison Rae and Jimmy Fallon are under fire for having the audacity to copy dances that everyone has been copying on TikTok but doing it on a TV show instead. But don't take my word for it. Just check out this article from the incredibly reliable Buzzfeed.com.
Now the real question, is Addison Rae Officially Cancelled? I'm afraid I'm going to have to rank this one a "Not a all" on our not-quite patented Cancel-o-Meter. [Note to editor: hire a graphics designer to make a meter. Also hire an editor.] Yes, people are upset and yes Addison and Jimmy could have done more to highlight the black dancers that started these dances. But if we cancelled every TikTok influencer that copied another influencer without credit we'd have to cancel all of TikTok. Actually, that sounds pretty awesome. Can we get society on this, stat?
Our second and final ARE THEY CANCELLED OR NOT in this First Edition is Matt Gaetz. This Republican Representative from Florida has been accused of having sex with a 17 year old and violating human trafficking laws. And just about everyone wants a piece of him. Well, other than Fox News, who wants everyone to know they absolutely DO NOT want a piece of him.
But has he been Officially Cancelled? The jury is still out here. On one hand, some alleged Republican pedophiles have been pushed out of the party. On the other hand, at least one of them was made President. Maybe this is all part of Matt Gaetz's play for the White House? However it doesn't look good at all that Matt was the only vote in both chambers of Congress to vote against a child trafficking bill.
Plugging all this into our algorithm gives a hearty "Endangered" rating. He's not cancelled yet, but I don't think he's long for the political world. Good thing he can always just get a spot on Newsmax. Or maybe a VP slot on Trump 2024. At least they'll have more in common than Mike Pence!
And that wraps up our first artisinal hand-crafted edition of the Officially Cancelled front page. Coming Soon, in no particular order:
